BARI - SUNDAY 12/01/2001 THE CONCERT Romacker's gypsy violin at Mola this evening Countless pages of world literature have been filled with the charm and appeal of gypsy music performed on the violin. In today's day and age there has been a change in the approach to the traditional music of a wide range of communities such as the Romany community for example, but there has been no change in the exotic hold that these sounds have over the general public. Daniela Romacker, a young German classical violinist, who perfected her technique in New York and who has been resident in the Italian capital for a number of years where she regularly works with the Teatro Arciliuto, has found her favourite repertoire in gypsy music. She has devoted all her attention to this music for many years and was chosen as the 2002 winner of the prestigious Torneo Internazionale di Musica held in France (first prize out of 385 competitors from 68 countries) with a programme of gypsy and "semi classical music which showed off wonderfully the virtuoso talent of this former child prodigy from Mannheim who, as she likes to point out, is of gypsy origin as the prefix of her surname Romacker clearly indicates. Following the great success of her performances in Rome and around the world, the violinist will present together with the Roman pianist Mario Cavaceppi, for the first time ever in Puglia, the programme which was the inspiration for her first CD Méditation. Cavaceppi also shows great open-mindedness with regard to music that is not exclusively classical and is the maker of the rather unique violin which Romacker plays. The performance will include arrangements of traditional melodies together with original compositions and well-known pieces like Two Guitars The Skylark and Czardas as well as some western offerings such as those of Armando Trovajoli. The concert organised by AGi.MUS di Mola di Bari will be held at the beautiful, historic Van Westerhout theatre at 8pm.
